An open-source tool for tracking private-jet flights and estimating their carbon emissions, built for the Institute for Policy Studies’ Private Jet Accountability Project.
IYOIYO built PJET, the Private Jet Emissions Tracker, to help researchers and journalists investigate private aviation. The system turns publicly broadcast flight data into searchable takeoff and landing records, connects flights with aircraft and airport data, and estimates their carbon emissions. An interactive browser interface makes it possible to explore flight activity and compare emissions against a baseline. The tracker supported the Private Jet Accountability Project’s research into private-jet traffic around the 2026 World Cup. Oxfam France has also used the tool to examine private-jet activity and its climate impact in France. The tracker and its findings have been covered by The Guardian, Fast Company, and the Daily Mail, and featured in analysis published by Common Dreams.
